Chinese Design Today: Tomorrow’s Bestseller

isit Chinese Design Today at Themes and Variations in Notting Hill for an intriguing insight into the minds and works of 11 contemporary Chinese designers, some of whom have never exhibited their work outside the Far East.

Pieces to look out for: Shao Fan’s King Chair, Jia Li’s eye-catching Memory Stool, ceramics by Fiona Wong Lai-Ching and Zhang Zhoujie’s futuristic coffee table. Interestingly, there’s science behind Zhoujie’s art – this piece is part of the Triangulation Series collection which uses triangles, mathematical logic and strategic engineering to create minimalist designs.

Li Lihong’s McDonalds ‘M’ sculpture is a perfect blend of modern Western capitalist iconography and traditional Chinese culture, featuring waves drawn in a traditional Chinese style lapping at the feet of the iconic sign.

China has been working hard in recent years to make a mark in the world of global design, and definitely succeeds with this show.
