India Fantistique! Unveiled at Sotheby’s

This week Sotheby’s unveiled India Fantistique! exhibition, a product of fruitful collaboration of the international fashion photographer Ram Shergill and Indian designer duo, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

Sotheby’s with its reputation in the international art world served as host to the India Fantistique! exhibit launch on 5 September, which was attended by many distinguished guests from both UK and India. Among many who attended the exclusive launch were designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, photographer Ram Shergill, Dame Judi Dench and screen legend Amitabh Bachchan.

Dedicated to the 25th anniversary of working partnership of Abu and Sandeep, India’s most celebrated couturiers, who designed for Dame Judi Dench, Freida Pinto, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sophie Marceau amongst others. The exhibit featured a series of fashion photographs by renowned photographer Ram Shergill that capture designers’ sartorial masterpieces both on models and celebrities, such as Dame Judi Dench and Amitabh Bachchan. These fashion portraits are also beautifully presented in a unique two-volume coffee-table book sold at the exhibition.

Ram Shergill, whose photographs can be considered work of art, has had an illustrious career of photographing most influential fashion icons of today and had exhibited his work at the institutional Victoria and Albert Museum as well as the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London. He has worked with various Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities; top models, such as Naomi Campbel; royals; musical icons, such as the late Amy Winehouse, Will.I.Am and Cheryl Cole; and even football stars, such as Russia’s Andrei Arshavin. His photography has been featured in prestigious fashion publications, such as Vogue and Tatler.

Commenting on the exhibit launch, Ram Shergill said:
Photographing for the Abu Sandeep India Fantastique book has been a fantastical journey where I have been able to photograph some of the world’s most iconic faces, been to exotic far flung places and have experienced the ultimate in luxury; for me their work is unique and above all it was a stunning experience. No one shoot is ever the same. A coffee table book is an opportunity for a photographer to give birth to an idea and then carry it through to the end, and it has been great to collaborate with Abu and Sandeep in this pioneering venture.
