Asian Media Awards-2013

Asian Media Awards

Recognition, however, big or small feels great. We are proud to announce that AGI has been nominated for Magazine of the Year Award at this year’s Asian Media Awards.

The finalists for the first Asian Media Awards were unveiled at London’s Living Room at City Hall on September 30th.

The event was held in aid of official charity partner Lendwithcare.org, which is one of the world’s leading aid and development organisation.

The list includes a wide range of journalists, bloggers, print and online magazines, newspapers and media agencies from the across the country.

The Asian Media Awards aims to promote and celebrate the achievements of the Asian media industry in the UK. “With the growth in digital television, social media and the internet there are more Asians in the media industry at all levels than ever before,” said presenter and broadcaster Lisa Aziz who hosted the night.  “So it is perhaps only fitting that we have launched the Asian Media Awards to celebrate the success of our presenters, television stations, newspapers, radio stations and bloggers.”

Umbreen Ali, media manager at the Asian Media Awards, added: “Since the inaugural launch, there has been an overwhelming response to the Asian Media Awards. That can be seen in the caliber of the shortlist.

“This is essentially what the awards epitomise – embracing talent in the UK on every spectrum.”

Sophiya Haque Coronation Street

A special award has been named in tribute to late Asian actress Sophiya Haque, who died of cancer earlier this year, aged 41.

The Sophiya Haque Services to British Television Award will honour her wide and varied achievements in both film and theatre.

The talented actress starred in Coronation Street as barmaid Poppy Morales. She also played alongside Angelina Jolie in the hit film Wanted and her West End appearances included Bombay Dreams, The Far Pavilions and Wah! Wah! Girls.

The Asian Media Awards will take place on Thursday, October 31st at the Hilton Deansgate, Manchester.

We hope to see you there.
