With just five days to its release; the entire team of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was in London to promote their film and meet their fans at the Bentley Hotel this Thursday followed by a star-studded Red Carpet screening held on Friday at The Mayfair Hotel. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Run Milkha Run) is an upcoming Indian Sports film that chronicles the life of former Indian athlete– Milkha Singh. The film which stars Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, Meesha Safi and British actor Art Malik is produced and directed by  BAFTA Award winning director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Rang De Basanti, Delhi 6) while the script is written by Prasoon Joshi.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is the incredible true-life story of Milkha Singh, also known as the Flying Sikh. Singh is a former Indian track and field sprinter who is considered as India’s most loved and esteemed sporting heroes. Many recall Milkha Singh as a world champion in the 400 meters, who infamously lost the penultimate race of his life – the 400 meters final at the Rome Olympics – but won in life. Singh sold the story for just one rupee. The remuneration from the film will be used for the development of disadvantaged athletes in India.

Singh’s life is a portrait of professional triumph over personal tragedy. The movie attempts to understand the catastrophic loss that was deemed a sure victory. It takes us through Milkha’s life– the darkness that distressed him and his redemption. The story winds through the plagues of a bloody civil war where Milkha’s family was brutally killed during the violent and tumultuous India-Pakistan Partition era resulting in a lost childhood, homelessness, and a life filled with petty with well-earned victories later on.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is the story of one man’s perseverance as an athlete and his courageous spirit. The legendary athlete hopes that the movie will inspire Indian youngsters to seriously consider sports. The film is produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and ROMP Pictures and released through Reliance Entertainment on 12th July.

Stay tuned for our interview with Farhan Akhtar next week.
