Valentine’s Day Steals Hearts and Wallets across Asia

n recent years, even conservative Asian countries such as India have been seduced by the lure of Cupid and co., with Valentine cards and celebrations supplanting traditional gestures of love, and prices on treats such as meals out and flowers soaring every year.

And it’s not just restaurants, attractions, and malls cashing in on this traditionally Christian holiday- in some Asian countries, governments are rallying behind it too. For the record, Valentine was said to be a Roman saint, who’s story became intertwined with medieval traditions of courtly love, adding the flourishes and flowery romance with which we associate the holiday today.
