Coach’s Legacy Revived by Anna Sui

An unlikely collaboration has become this season’s must have accessory.

f there was going to be a bag that could give you a taste of rock and roll, then it would Coach’s newest limited addition duffel, designed by the trend-setting designer Anna Sui. Sui’s unique bohemian rock and roll flair is obvious in the decoration of the two-piece collection, and serves to update the brand’s Legacy Items.

The first of the two is a leather duffel adorned with a dragonfly motif that nicely contrasts the black leather with bright turquoise stitching and floral lining, named the Legacy Anna Sui Dragonfly Large Duffle. The second is the Legacy Anna Sui Fleur de Lis Large Duffle bag, a beautifully crafted vegetable tanned medium brown, featuring hand tolled and knotted detailing. Both bags are embellished with solid brass hardware, the signature Coach handtag, bold tassels, and a removable interior wristlet which for a lucky few in Soho, New York, were signed by Anna Sui herself.

For some this may be an unexpected collaboration. As Sui commented,
”I think we are an unexpected match, which sometimes makes the best kinds of collections.”
Indeed, unusual pairings are one of Coach’s best market strategies, especially for their Asian markets.

Since entering the Asian market in 2003, Coach has been targeting China’s ever expanding middle class market, giving them vital leverage over their competitors. By branding themselves as an entry-level luxury brand, Coach have been able to target young consumers as well as the post collegiate consumers who are just entering the workforce. With Anna Sui now working with Coach, the brand is unstoppable in the market. The duo’s collaborative collection are numbered, signed if you’re lucky, and is now available in stores and online.
