Piti Uomo and Pitti W’s newest trade show guests, Kenzo and Maison Kitsune, bring music as well as fashion to the catwalk.
enzo is what Pitti Immagine Communications and Events director Lapo Cianchi calls, “one of the most interesting phenomena of recent seasons and, to be frank, one of the most exciting.” Exciting has been Kenzo’s keyword since he rebelled against the wishes of his traditional parents and dropped out of university to pursue his fashion dream at Tokyo’s Bunka Fashion College. Being one of the first males to enroll into the school, Kenzo quickly adapted to the female dominated university life, admitting his sartorial leanings were partly due to reading his sister’s magazines when growing up.
The brand has evolved since its initial launch in 1970 and today Kenzo is led by a New York-based dynamic duo – Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, founders of a hip brand Opening Ceremony. The last few collections by Kenzo have been highly acclaimed by the fashion critics and Leon and Kim are credited with this success. As Vogue writes about their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection: “Leon and Lim brought us the world of Opening Ceremony so their credentials when it comes to the world of cool can’t really be questioned – this was another fun collection”.
While Kenzo has brought fashion, Maison Kitsune, which began as a record label, brings Pitti Immagine the atmosphere for a complementing woman’s collection. Maison Kitsune is known for combining a traditional approach with a modern attitude, that redefines daily luxury and the classi look. Cianchi forecasts Maison Kitsune’s show to be a “powerful event” as
”fashion and music express a single eclectic and highly rhythmic creative project.”
An event full of fashion and music, Pitti Uomo’s and Pitti W’s trade show will take place in Florence from January 8-11, 2013.
