Inspired by ethnic wear, costumes of ancient cultures and his travels, Osman Yousefzada presented his latest S/S 2013 collection last night at LFW. AGI was there to see his latest creations.
ritish born to Afghani parents, Osman has been making clothesfrom a young age. After launching his label in 2005, his designer talent has been widely recognized and his celebrity clients list has been growing ever since. He has received NEWGEN sponsorship for three seasons (SS07 – SS08), has been nominated for annual Designs of Year 2007 award at the Design Museum, his 2008 collaboration with Mango for Little Black Dress collection was one of the most successful and highly praised. And last year, Osman was also shortlisted for prestigious BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.
[quote align=”center” color=”#b64736″]Osman’s designs can be seen simple thanks to their minimalism. [/quote]They are effortlessly chic and are based on the creative mix of tradition and modernity. Yet his clothes are done with a high degree of precision, great tailoring and finishing touches like draping and embroidery. These themes continued in Osman’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection, which is all about luxury fabrics, structured silhouettes, sensuous draping and vibrant colours.
Models strutted the runway in asymmetrical separates and one-piece garments in the shades of fuchsia, azure blue, peach, light yellow, black and white. Elongated tunics were complemented with cigarette trousers, below knee and floor length skirts had deep slits, while plunging v-necks were the focal points of peplum tops. The combination of skirts over trousers, flowing trains, capes and hoods transported audience to Osman’s vision of a mysterious and exotic ancient Asian empire. I particularly hearted embroidered heart designs on jackets, capes and dresses, which encompassed the colours of the whole collection bringing it all together.
