A Colourful Collaboration of Art and Fashion

Louis Vuitton’s Yayoi Kusama collection combines art and fashion, creating a vibrant and lively clothing line which is sure to bring new life to any wardrobe.

Hailed as one of the most important contemporary artists from Japan, Yayoi Kusama has collaborated with the French designer Louis Vuitton, bringing her signature polka dots to life on the catwalk and on screen as LOVE Magazine shows their appreciation through a special and innovative iPad app.

Both Kusama and Vuitton have very distinct styles, the latter using it’s trademark LV and monogram flower design on many of their products, including handbags, scarves, suitcases and other such items. However, in using Kusama’s psychedelic designs in their new collection, the 158 year old fashion label has had an injection of colour as it’s signature browns and creams have been taken over by cherry red and lemon yellow dots. When you see some of Kusama’s work this is far from surprising. In the past, she has organised body painting festivals, created rooms which one might associate with hallucinogenics, and incorporated electric lights into her outlandish and eccentric art.

Finding its way on to iPads all over the world, the app, art directed by Jonny Lu and shot by Angelo Pannetta, gives subscribers to LOVE Magazine a chance to play around with the brightly coloured dots whilst browsing the collection. Katie Grand, LOVE‘s editor-in-chief, said that Lu and the app
used never-before-seen ideas and has taken nearly a year to develop it. Although it looks so simple, building ‘the back’ has been hugely complex
To get the app you can subscribe to LOVE Magazine or download it for free from the Apple Store.
