As the London 2012 Olympics drew to close, Russia’s journey to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi continues.
hemed ‘Where Russia Greets the World’, two venues, Russia.Park and Sochi.Park in Kensington Gardens welcomed tourists and Londoners alike for the past two weeks. Targeted to promote Russian culture and start building up the hype about next Winter Olympics, Russia.Park turned into the biggest Russian event ever hosted in London.
While Sochi.Park became a high-tech, digital winter wonderland with performances from Russian and world ice skating champions, Russia.Park was about cultural experiences. It featured picnic zones with food and drinks from across Russia, performance spaces, spectacular ice shows, exhibition pavilions, children’s activities and live concerts to suite each and everyone’s taste and preferences.

[/quote]The mission of this Olympiad was to preserve and raise awareness of remarkable Russian culture and to better acquaint world with the nation’s diverse cultural heritage.
One of the highlights of the program was the RED ROCKS FESTIVAL,which brought the most prominent Russian pop and rock groups together in the same venue. Mumy Troll, Vopli Vidopliassova, Garik Sukachev, Okean Elzy, B-2, and Machete were some of the Russia’s biggest and most beloved bands performing at Russia.Park.
The RED ROCKS FESTIVAL was named after the mountains of Krasnaya Polyana (“Red Meadow”), where the Sochi 2014 Winter Games will take place, and where every year the best contemporary Russian and international musicians perform their live gigs. In 2012 RED ROCKS FESTIVAL became the starting point for a major music tour covering more than 40 cities in Russia and the “Music of the Future” interactive project, which aims to create and record the fan anthem of the Sochi 2014 XXII Olympic Winter Games. The singing of the music fans at the RED ROCKS FESTIVAL’s closing concert in Sochi.Park was also recorded for this anthem and stored as electronic samples, so that in two year’s time voices from London will be once again heard across the world.
