‘DRAMAQUEEN’ Fashion Alert

Dramaqueen, a trendy fashion label by Middle East based designer Barkha Shewakramani, is set to elevate the international fashion fraternity and landscape to new heights with its uber-stylish and affordable creations.

aving studied garment construction at the prestigious American University in Dubai, this young designer debuted in the fashion arena at Dubai Fashion Week in 2007, before spreading her wings to International capitals such as London and Mumbai. When asked to elaborate on the roots of the brand, Barkha commented: ‘“Every girl in her own way is full of drama and emotion. She has a longing to be treated like a princess, and every garment of mine makes her feel like a queen.”

The ‘Dramaqueen’ label, which combines vintage inspired design with glamorous, timeless pieces that fuse Eastern trends with Western style, has enthralled Dubai’s trend-conscious, socialite crowd since its launch five years ago, and has gone on to capture the hearts of style-savvy women around the world. Barkha channels all proceeds and publicity from Dramaqueen and other collaborations into raising funds to support her charitable cause, The Lupus Foundation, an organisation she founded herself.  Barkha is one of many public figures, including Lady Gaga and Seal, who suffer from Lupus. She founded Dramaqueen after being diagnosed with Lupus, an illness in which the immune system attacks healthy tissue,  to merge her passion for fashion with a strong social message.

Since its launch, Dramaqueen has quickly attracted the who’s who of Middle Eastern society, including socialites, business elite and even Bollywood royalty. After four successful seasons of cutting-edge collections, Dramaqueen is now set to launch its debut Indian collection in the fashion hub of Mumbai in September 2012.
